“It’s About Respect”: Preventing and Eliminating Harassment
June 23 - 24, 2008 (8:00am -5:00pm)
This course is designed for human resource professionals, AA/EEO professionals and others with responsibilities in the areas of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity, etc. It will include discussion of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX, which prohibit harassment in the workplace and in educational institutions, and the discussion will go beyond sexual harassment. However, while the day’s conversation will be grounded in the legal parameters of harassment, the ultimate focus will be how these requirements lead to institutions where respect and civility are key.
Participants will learn to define and identify harassment; understand that unacceptable behavior violates institutional policy, Recognize the effects of harassment on all members of the institutional community and understand the rights and responsibilities of victims, administrators, professors and fellow students in preventing, reporting and remedying sexual harassment, and lastly, know what to do when harassment occurs.
